The FIFA soccer games for XBox and Playstation are considered the absolute prime of football games. They have the bonus of not only having an official license from the world governing body of football, but they also feature many exclusively-licensed leagues and teams that no other game has. Published and and developed annually by Electronic Arts, the series begin in 1993, but the greatest gameplay was achieved with the later games.

 

FIFA 07

 

FIFA 07 was released in September 2006 and marked the beginning of the next generation FIFA games. Available on the XBox 360, it focuses on refinement, rather than growth. The available teams have been reduced to the four European leagues, plus other national teams. To improve immersion, the atmosphere has also been improved with the crowd's ability to react to events throughout the game with small pockets of away support cheering in certain parts of the stadium or the home crowd being local to the region.

 

2007 - FIFA 08

 

FIFA 08 furthers the online portions of the game, keeping in line with the growth of the multiplayer market. Online cooperative play and player vs player interactive leagues are now available online, allowing players to choose their league and team to compete against a real player. This was refined with the ability to carry out trick moves. Additional gameplay additions include 'Be a Pro Mode', which gives the players the ability to play a match as only a single player in the team, besides the goalkeeper. Overall, the game also sees a decrease in the speed of each match.

 

FIFA 09

 

While each FIFA game sees improvements per release of the game, FIFA 09 supposedly included 250 changes. While not exhaustive, here are some of the largest changes. The user's players now exhibit more responsiveness in many situations, such as when in control of the ball and when two players collide. 2009

 

The latest in the franchise, FIFA 10 brings about many new additions to the Manager Mode that many players have welcomed. A new Assistant Manager can sort out your team for you while you focus on the the larger gameplay. Furthermore, sponsors are less important, while the club's board of directors are more so, due to their ability to dish out whatever wages they feel your team deserves. The Auto-Resolve option for matches now takes into account the team's overall strength, rather than randomly choosing a winner.

Madden is one of the most look-forward-to releases on xbox and PS3 every year, and this year is no exception. For more than 20 years, this franchise has been an undeniably big hit. It's right there for the annual NFL Draft, creating shots of players on their new teams almost instantly. The game has become so popular that tournaments where professionals play head-to-head for loads of money have made it onto television for our viewing pleasure. You may have also heard the term "Madden Holiday"...and it just goes to show how incredibly popular it has become.

 

Amidts the excitement of the game's release, it can be slightly bittersweet for some players, namely those who get rated badly and, above all, the one who graces the game's cover. For the 12 years Madden has been boasing an annual cover athlete, those athletes chosen seem to either play poorly that year, or suffer serious and season-ruining injury.

 

In the first week of the 2009 season, the Madden curse had already reared it's ugly head. Two players made their way onto the cover of Madden 10 for the first time ever. You'd think that the NFL would have leraned it's leason by now. Athletes are notoriously superstitious, and next time Madden comes a callin', most would be better off to just decline. 2003: After being featired as the Madden 03 cover athlete, Rams' running back Marshall Faulk played the whole 2002 season with a naggin ankle problem, and didn't reach his full potential. He failed to rush for 1,000 yards for the first time in 6 years, and the Rams finished the season 7-9. missing the playoffs.

 

2004: Atlanta Falcons franchise QB (and a Madden player's favorite QB at the time) missed the entire 2003 season after gracing the cover of Madden 04. His team finished 5-11 (missing the playoffs of course) without him.

 

2006: After taking a break in 2004, the curse was back at it for the 2005 season. Donovan Mcnabb was the cover athlete of Madden 06 and wouldn't you know, he suffered a sports hernai in week one, causing him to eventually get sidelined for the second half of the year.
